Unplugged Project: Photos
Yesterday we had our first day of homeschool! It was a wonderful experience, and I’m planning on writing about it in the next 24 hours (promise). We have a busy day planned today because it’s Moyra’s birthday!!! She’s three years old today. I love how fast she’s growing. She’s such a blessing to our family…so full of life and exuberance.
I’ve been following the Unplug Your Kids blog for a long time now as a lurker. I’ve utilized her unending motivation to help wean my little toddlers from the television, and help them to be entertained with other healthier activities. She’s made me feel like a better mother, and for that I’ll be ever thankful.
Every week, she has a new activity theme for you to do with your kids…an activity designed to unplug those electronic babysitters and get your kids moving, shaking, doing and learning or playing! This week’s theme was photos. On her site, she printed off greyscale images of family photos and recoloured them. You should take a look at the beautiful images on her site that she recolored, from her recent trip to France..oh they are lovely.
I thought her example would be fun, so instead of opting to create my own photo themed activity, I decided to try hers! I printed off a picture of Moyra from her last year’s birthday for her to color, and one for me of Kirsten at the Colorado Renaissance Festival last year. Both pictures were so much fun, mostly because we could compare how much the girls had changed. When I recolored my photo, I decided to only color the portion that was Kirsten, and leave the rest black and white:

Moyra had much more fun rolling her pic up into a tube and looking through it around the room, and at me saying “hello mommy!”. I think the idea of being a pirate appealed to her yesterday!

She did color on her pic a bit, and I was able to pry it open for a minute to take a picture of it for you!

If you’ve never been the Unplug Your Kids site, you should head over there. She has all kinds of activity ideas, links to articles and research about the damage that television can do to our little one’s imaginations, and so much more.
P.S. I’m so glad to be back. I missed blogging so much!

Looks like you both had a good time doing this activity. How fun to color a photo!
